Post-Treatment Tips For Facial Laser Hair Removal

Blog

Laser hair removal is a safe and common removal method for unwanted facial hair. When performed by a professional, you can rest assured you'll get the lasting benefits you desire. Yet, it's still important to practice safe, post-treatment care steps to maximize the benefits of the treatment and to protect your skin.

1. Halt Other Hair Removal Treatments

The skin on your face is particularly delicate, and while safe, your post-treatment skin is in somewhat of a fragile state. You never want to irritate the skin by practicing other hair removal treatments while undergoing laser hair removal. Techniques like waxing and tweezing irritate the skin.

However, these treatments also hinder the ability of the laser to effectively target the hairs, which might prevent the laser from properly penetrating the hair and removing it. Certain hair removal methods can also increase the risk of ingrown hairs. As long as you follow your treatment sessions as prescribed, you will achieve the results you want.

2. Stay Inside

Be diligent about staying out of the sun for extended periods for a while after each laser session. After each session, the skin on your face needs a certain amount of time to heal. Prolonged sun exposure might affect the way your skin heals, and result in hyperpigmentation, which is sometimes impossible to correct.

If you have to spend time outside, you want to wear a hat with a large brim to help shield your face and apply sunscreen. Keep in mind that you will need to continue to wear sunscreen even after your final treatment when your skin is healed. Speak with your dermatologist to see what level SPF is best for your skin.

3. Use Gentle Cleansers

Take it easy when it comes to the types of cleansers you use on your face post-treatment. You never want to use any products with harsh ingredients, such as those used to treat acne. If you apply these chemicals to your face, you are at an increased risk of your skin becoming irritated and red. When your skin is in this state, you will not be able to continue with treatment until it is cleared up.

A mild cleanser is best until your skin is fully healed from the treatment session. However, you do want to invest in a gentle exfoliant, as this will help reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.

It's always best to speak with your dermatologist to discuss any specific post-treatment measures you need to take. For more information on hair removal treatments, talk with a dermatologist such as one from Gateway Dermatology PC.

Skin: It's What You're In

We are all covered in skin. It plays a number of roles in our body, helping to keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It keeps our organs in place, and it even eliminates waste. But like any other organ, your skin can develop a number of health issues as time goes on. Maybe you develop acne, or perhaps you become affected by psoriasis or eczema. Dermatologists are there to help. This blog is all about doctors who specialize in dermatology, the work they do, and how they can help you get the skin you've always desired.
